* Note that positions are currently full. Please apply for vacancies available from October 2012.*
The Nuffield Trust has vacancies for two interns at any one time for between three and six months. One person will gain experience within our communications team and one within our resources team.
- Digital and communications intern
Based in the communications team, you will be involved in all aspects of the Trust’s digital and marketing communications, working across our new website and social media platforms. As part of the internship, you will also receive exposure to broader aspects of our communications work. This is aimed at individuals looking to develop their skills and understanding of digital communications. HTML skills are desirable.
- Resources intern
The resources intern will have the opportunity to experience this varied team and gain exposure to finance, IT, HR and the management of our premises. You will help with administration and also learn key workplace skills such as familiarisation with the Sage accounting system, IT housekeeping and how we recruit and appoint our staff.
We welcome applications from all candidates for these roles. You will be based in our central London offices. There is no minimum academic entry requirement because we consider that your personal attitude is the most important attribute. You might be a school leaver, an undergraduate, already have a postgraduate qualification or be looking to make a career change. You might be studying for a relevant degree and be looking for appropriate professional experience.
We are looking for people who will approach their internship with energy and enthusiasm. You will have a professional attitude and want to be part of a team. You will have an interest in the delivery of health services within the UK. You should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
In return, your line manager will support you during your internship with a structured programme. Before you leave we will have a serious conversation with you about how you have performed. We will give you honest feedback and hopefully the skills you acquired during your time with us will benefit you in your future career. We won’t be in a position to offer you a job but we will respond to requests for references from prospective employers.
Please note that we are not able to help with accommodation in London, nor with acquiring a visa or a work permit.
We understand that you may have other commitments, such as part-time paid employment or your academic studies, so if you want to take up your internship on a part-time basis we would be happy to consider this.
These internships are unpaid – you will be a volunteer working for the Trust and be entitled to claim £20 per day expenses.
How to apply
Please email us your CV (not more than two sides of A4 paper) and a covering letter (about 350 words) saying why you want an internship at the Trust. You should write concisely in clear, grammatically correct English. Please make sure that there aren’t any spelling mistakes. We want to see how you write and how you set out a document so take care with your application.
Your letter should say how long you want the internship for, whether you wish to volunteer full or part time and when you would be available to start. Your letter should be sent to our HR department via email.
We will respond to your application to let you know it has arrived and we aim to inform you whether we would like to interview you within two weeks. If you are successful in your application we will ask you to provide two references.
