Leading researcher and economist John Appleby is to join the Nuffield Trust as Director of  Research and Chief Economist. John is currently chief economist at The King’s Fund, Visiting Professor at City University’s Department of Economics and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College. He brings a huge depth of knowledge of the NHS and an outstanding portfolio of research on health care finance and economic issues. John will take up his post from 1 September.

Nuffield Trust Chief Executive Nigel Edwards says:

"I am absolutely delighted to be welcoming John to the Nuffield Trust. I have collaborated with John over many years and he is a hugely respected player in the field of health policy and research. He is both creative and rigorous and will really strengthen our research programme and our wider work with clinicians and managers in the NHS. The King’s Fund and the Nuffield have a strong track record of collaborating on research projects and joining forces to comment on major issues. John’s appointment with us will strengthen that further. It’s great news."

John says:

"I am looking forward to working with a very talented team at the Nuffield, and pursuing new areas of research in an organisation that punches above its weight in the health policy arena. I am proud of my work at The King’s Fund and have enjoyed collaborating over 18 years with a really great group of colleagues."
