We are aware that our activities have an impact on the environment and seek to minimise this where possible. We respect the principle of sustainable development and aim to work in a way that meets the needs of today’s generation whilst safeguarding those of future generations.

In June 2015 The Nuffield Trust was awarded both an Award for Recycling and an Award for Environmental Excellence from the BPR Group. This is in recognition of our commitment to reducing CO² emissions and recycling.

We are also a member of the Fit for the Future Network; a platform for environmental practitioners to connect and share ideas and solutions on how to reduce the environmental impact of their respective organisations.

We are committed to:

  • Complying and keeping up with environmental legislation
  • Continually working to reduce our environmental impacts – minimising waste production, energy use and keeping staff informed and aware of our environmental practices

Specific areas where we are working to reduce our environmental impact:

  • Working with staff and building users to make the building’s operations as environmentally friendly as possible
  • Segregating our waste to increase our recycling rate
  • Working with a responsible waste-collection supplier to ensure that we are a zero-to-landfill organisation
  • Purchasing recycled paper products, including ‘closed-loop’ printer paper
  • Providing staff with regular environmental reports and updates
  • Continually looking for ways to improve and build upon our existing environmental policies

We will review this environmental policy annually to ensure it is up to date and that we are assessing areas for improvement.

Any queries about our environmental practices should be directed to Chelsea Robinson at: chelsea.robinson@nuffieldtrust.org.uk.
