An ageing and growing population, combined with unprecedented constraints on funding, make this five-year period one of the most challenging ever for the health and social care system.

In 2016 our three main themes were:

  • Re-engaging the workforce to meet the challenges ahead: We explored how the NHS is developing the workforce and implementing successful workforce development and planning to realign ways of working with the needs of patients.
  • How is the NHS implementing new models of care to support the improvement and integration of services for patients? 18 months on from the Five Year Forward View, delegates heard how organisations and individuals within the NHS are responding to the major challenges by delivering personalised and coordinated health services that patients need through new service models.
  • How do we achieve transformational change in the health and social care service? The Summit provided delegates with the opportunity to think about and challenge perspectives on how the NHS is delivering radical changes in order to create a sustainable healthcare system.
