In this presentation, Nuffield Trust Chief Economist Anita Charlesworth provides an overview of the Government’s spending plans for health between 2011 – 2015.
Anita looks at the productivity story to date and considers what the NHS is likely to do in order to meet the challenge of delivering £20billion of efficiency savings by 2015, including: controlling pay with the settlement freeze for all staff earning more than £21k; bearing down on hospital efficiency through a tight framework for prices; implementing the QIPP programme; and reducing management costs.
Anita presented at the opening session of the Nuffield Trust and the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation masterclass: Managing a health system through an economic downturn, in May 2011.
