The Nuffield Trust conducted a retrospective study of eight local authority run schemes to see if they achieved any of the intended reductions in hospital use. We used an innovative matching method to create matched control groups and found largely negative results that have implications for the future funding and evaluation of similar initiatives.
This presentation is a collection of the key slides from our analysis. A report of the findings of this study: An evaluation of the impact of community-based interventions on hospital use, by Adam Steventon, Dr Martin Bardsley, Professor John Billings, Theo Georghiou, and Dr Geraint Lewis was published in March 2011.
