NHS England’s Five Year Forward View laid out historic plans for new organisations, combining GPs and other professionals across the NHS.

This event for Parliamentarians and other health stakeholders explored what these ‘new models of care’ will look like, what potential benefits such services can bring to patients, and what challenges the NHS will face in implementing the changes.

This was an opportunity to learn about one of the most important changes in the NHS for decades, which will fundamentally change how patients and the public see and interact with their local NHS services. Delegates will hear from, and get a chance to question, NHS leaders from ‘vanguard’ areas, where these important changes are already being piloted.

Dr Rebecca Rosen, a GP and Policy Fellow at the Nuffield Trust, introduced the seminar, outlining the new primary care models and the process for selecting and supporting them. We then heard from Jim Mackey and Dr Stephen Shortt, who are leading two different types of new and pioneering primary care models, in Northumbria and Nottinghamshire. A chaired Q&A followed.
