These figures exclude staff in private providers of NHS care, staff in NHS hospitals employed by non-NHS organisations, and bank staff; levels of these staff will vary by nation. Staff levels are for full-time equivalents as at September 2021 whereas population estimates are for mid-2020. Northern Ireland excluded from the chart because of lack of comparable data.
