Why this event?

The Nuffield Trust is conducting an exploratory study financed by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to better understand the value of small/local hospitals and the kinds of models of care that respond better to population needs.

This event is an opportunity for us to hear what you value about your local hospital and why it is important to you and your family. Your contribution will help us to include the patient perspective in our analysis. It is not a public consultation.

Who should attend?

Any patient or member of the public that would like to share their experiences in their local hospital and share potential ideas for improving care and services.

What will happen on the day?

The event will use the 'Open Space' format and will be led by Rachel Matthews (an experienced facilitator) in collaboration with the Nuffield Trust.

The Open Space format is used all around the world as a way to hold better, more productive meetings. There will not be any speakers; the people who come on the day will set the agenda. People who expect a highly managed, carefully controlled day may find the format unusual. Most of the time will be spent in flexible small groups, discussing issues that matter to you. Discussion will be focused around the topics people suggest, and by the end participants will have set the top priorities from the output of all the groups.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided for all participants.

And then what?

Every participant will receive a report on the issues and solutions identified. Your input will be included in the analysis of a large NIHR study being led by the Nuffield Trust.
