The Nuffield Trust was commissioned by the Secretary of State for Health to review whether ‘aggregate ratings’ of provider performance should be used in health and social care.
In this exclusive video interview, Dr Jennifer Dixon CBE, Chief Executive of the Nuffield Trust, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of introducing such a system for hospitals, GP practices, care homes and other adult social care providers. She considers how it could be a useful approach to holding providers accountable for care quality.
Dr Dixon led the review with colleagues at the Nuffield Trust and a working group of experts. The final report from the review: Rating providers for quality: a policy worth pursuing? was published on 22 March 2013.
