Maureen O’Neil: How Canada managed health budget cuts

Published: 17/05/2011

In the 1990s Canada, along with other developed nations, faced an economic recession which had a big impact on public sector spending. In this video, Maureen O'Neil, President and Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, talks to the Nuffield Trust and reflects on the learning that Canada's experience of managing budget cuts alongside attempting to reform health services might have for the NHS.

Maureen co-chaired the Nuffield Trust event: Managing a health system through an economic downturn: A masterclass, hosted in partnership with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation in May 2011.
