Joint letter on the health and social care workforce

Our Chief Executive Nigel Edwards joined Richard Murray, Chief Executive of the King’s Fund, and Anita Charlesworth, Director of the Health Foundation REAL Centre, in a letter to Secretary of State Matt Hancock and Jeremy Hunt MP, Chair of the Health Select Committee.

The letter notes the extraordinary efforts and sacrifices of staff, and the need not to drive them away by pushing them too hard during the recovery. It says long term action is needed to avoid the shortages that bedevilled the pandemic response happening again, and the NHS Bill expected next month could help support this by setting up a system of annual, independent projections of how many health and social care staff are needed, and how many will actually come forwards.
