Dr Peter Steer has been the Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital since January 2015. Prior to this he was the Chief Executive of Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service from 2009. This service group includes the Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane - a 200 bed specialist paediatric facility. He was responsible for the building of the Lady Cilento Children’s hospital and the merger of the Royal Children’s and Match Children’s hospice.
Peter was also a Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland, and has a national role as a board member of the Children’s Hospital Australasia and of the Australian Provincial Council on Children's Health, providing strategic planning advice to the Ministry of Health and long-term care on child health issues.
He has a long career as a neonatologist, senior medical administrator and academic both in Australia and in Canada. Between 2003 and 2008 he was President of McMaster Children's Hospital and was Professor and Chair of the Department of Paediatrics at McMaster University. He was also Vice Chair of the Canadian Associate of Paediatric Health Centre.
