John graduated with honours in Medical Sciences at Magdalen College, Oxford before completing his training at UCL. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded a Distinction in a Postgraduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Science in preparation for his higher surgical training in Nottingham.

He has published scientific papers spanning clinical research, quality improvement, and medical negligence, many of which have also been presented internationally. John is a keen educator having lectured on and led anumber of teaching programmes. He co-authored and contributed to national reports, including ‘The Chavasse Report’ to improve armed forces and veteran care and ‘Getting It Right First Time - National Review of Elective Orthopaedics.’ John is now the Litigation Lead for ‘Getting It Right First Time’ working with the NHS Litigation Authority and NHS Improvement to ensure patient care is improved from medical negligence claims, on which he has written a book chapter. John is passionate about quality improvement. Locally he has been awarded a senior resident programme to produce a hip fracture patient carepathway. As a National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow he is learning how to implement change at a national level working with Professor Sir Bruce Keogh and Professor Keith Willett at NHS England.

Outside of medicine John’s interests include travelling. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Prize for his work at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York. He led a team to Everest Base Camp to carry out altitude research and has enjoyed charity work in Ecuador, Hong Kong and Kenya.
