John Wilderspin is an independent consultant, coach and non-executive who works in the health and care sector, following a 30-year career in NHS leadership.
During his NHS career he was Chief Executive of 3 Primary Care Trusts and an acute hospital Trust, and Managing Director of a Commissioning Support Unit. He led a number of national programmes, including the implementation of Health and Wellbeing Boards, the implementation of the Smith Review of leadership development and improvement in the NHS, and the integration of Monitor and the Trust Development Authority to form NHS Improvement.
He is currently a member of the national Independent Reconfiguration Panel which advises the Secretary of State on contested service changes, the Chair of Solent Mind, a local mental health charity, and a Governor at Treloars, a nationally renowned school and college for profoundly disabled children and young people.
John has a particular interest in integrated working and collaborative approaches to leadership. He co-chaired the “Systems Leadership Steering Group” together with the Chief Executive of Coventry City Council, which supported and promoted collaborative working between the NHS and local government. He also co-authored the “Integrated Commissioning for Better Outcomes” Framework for the Local Government Association and NHS Clinical Commissioners, which drew on the insights of CCGs, local councils and other partners to set the standards for integrated commissioning.
