Marcus Longley is Vice Chair of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and also Professor of Applied Health Policy at the University of South Wales, where he is Director of the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care. He was educated at the universities of Oxford, Cardiff and Bristol, and worked in the NHS from 1981 to 1995.

He has been a Specialist Advisor to the House of Commons Welsh Affairs Committee and to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales.  He has been a member of - and is currently an Expert Adviser to - the Bevan Commission.  He was elected a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in 2008.
