Vidhya Alakeson

Vidhya Alakeson is Deputy Chief Executive at the Resolution Foundation. She is also a leading consultant in the personalisation of health and social care. She is an internationally recognised expert on personal health budgets and has been closely involved in the development and implementation of personalisation in the English NHS and in the American Medicaid programme.

She is the author of a forthcoming book on personal health budgets due to be published in January 2014.

Previously, Vidhya was a Senior Fellow in Health Policy at the Nuffield Trust where she was responsible for developing the Trust’s comparative international health policy work.

Vidhya has worked as a policy analyst for the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the US Department of Health and Human Services, having first moved to the US in 2006 as a Harkness Fellow in Healthcare Policy.

Prior to moving to the US, Vidhya worked as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Public Services Team at HM Treasury and also undertook a secondment at the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit. Before moving into government, she worked in several think tanks, including as a Senior Research Fellow at the Social Market Foundation.

She was educated at Oxford University and the London School of Economics. Alongside international health policy, Vidhya’s principal areas of interest are individual commissioning and patient health budgets, mental health, social care financing, and integrated care.
