The Survey involved the completion by each medical school of a questionnaire for each major subject area in the medical curriculum; co-ordination was effected by a 'GMC Correspondent' in each school, who also answered a lengthy questionnaire on his school as a whole. Three visits were undertaken to every school by a member of the Survey Team, to elaborate, clarify, and expand upon replies.
The report of the Survey is in two volumes. This first volume reports principally on information gathered at medical school level from the GMC correspondents: schools’ objectives, curricular arrangements, and assessment systems in general. It also contains brief profiles of each of the 38 medical schools in the UK and Ireland. The second volume reports on the teaching of component elements of the medical course.
