This monograph is based on the 13th Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Lecture for the Nuffield Trust, delivered by Dame Deidre Hine.

Dame Hine discusses the concept of trust and how this applies to the modern health care system. She makes the point that trust is essential for the successful delivery of health care services and asks whether the NHS is experiencing a "crisis of trust". She also explores the relationship between trust and accountability.
