The great majority of doctors are anxious to maintain and develop the skills which are required to help their patients. Moreover, in hospital, and to an increasing extent in family practice, there are many opportunities to share problems with colleagues.
This report discusses if these informal mechanisms of self-criticism and of criticism by colleagues should be supplemented by more formal measures of quality assessment.
