The authors encourage policy makers to consider infection risk as part of health assessment of any policy, including at the level of the World Trade Organisation, as once conquered infections return, often because of neglect of public health infrastructures or because globalisation or trade and travel threaten to bring epidemic disease from remote ecosystems into western countries.
