Revalidation is the system we use to ensure that doctors remain fit to practise. In this John Fry Fellowship Lecture, Professor Mike Pringle challenges the current system and offers an alternative.

Professor Mike Pringle challenges the orthodoxy on the revalidation of doctors: is the present system really protecting patients? He argues that the debate on revalidation is an argument between continuing medical paternalism and maximising patient choice.

Professor Pringle makes a passionate plea for improving “the quality of care and the reputation of our profession” and offers an alternative methodology for licensing in the new patient-led NHS.
