This report discusses how the NHS after devolution might necessitate a redesigned Department of Health. It focuses on the possible transition of the Department of Health from an “overseeing” Whitehall department in the conventional mode to an organization focused on detailed delivery. It also discusses the current challenges facing the structure and leadership of the Department of Health, such as the tension between policy and management.
