This report provides policy recommendations on the public disclosure of performance data in the NHS.

This report provides policy recommendations on the public disclosure of performance data in the NHS.

The purpose of the report is to present concise recommendations which we hope will contribute to current thinking, inform successful implementation of a policy on public disclosure and reduce the associated risks and unintended consequences.

The recommendations are based on a critical appraisal of the twelve years of experience of public disclosure in the United States. This experience provides a useful insight to guide the expansion of the current low level of public disclosure in the United Kingdom.
