Nuffield Trust announces appointment of four new trustees to its Board

We've appointed four new trustees to our board, bringing a range and depth of experience from the highest levels in medicine, research, NHS management, nursing and academia.

The Nuffield Trust has today announced the appointment of four new trustees to its Board: Dr Bob Klaber OBE, Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, Professor Graham Martin, and Dr Nnenna Osuji.  

Dr Bob Klaber is a Consultant General Paediatrician & Executive Director of Strategy, Research & Innovation at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England. Bob trained as an educationalist alongside his postgraduate paediatric training in London and has a strong interest in individual and systems learning, quality improvement, behavioural insights work, leadership development and kindness. 

Dr Crystal Oldman has been Chief Executive of the Queen’s Nursing Institute since 2012. Prior to this Crystal worked in the NHS for 18 years, the majority of which was in the field of community nursing, working with some of the most deprived communities in west London. Crystal has also had a career in academia, completing her higher education career as a Dean of Enterprise and Business Management. She was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2017 for services to community nursing and her leadership of the QNI. 

Professor Graham Martin is Director of Research at The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute), a unit at the University of Cambridge funded primarily by the Health Foundation to develop the evidence base for improving healthcare quality and safety. He has over 20 years’ experience in leading research that uses social scientific methods and theory to improve understanding of organisational change in the healthcare system, having previously been Professor of Health Organisation and Policy at the University of Leicester. 

Dr Nnenna Osuji is the Chief Executive Officer at the North Middlesex University Hospitals Trust, which runs the North Middlesex University Hospital in Edmonton, London and community services based in Enfield. Before joining North Middlesex in 2021, Nnenna previously worked as deputy chief executive and medical director at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and was joint clinical lead for the South West London Sustainability and Transformation Partnership. She has a background in academia and teaching, is a haematology consultant and continues to practice.   

Commenting on the new trustees, Nuffield Trust Chair Professor Martin Marshall said:

With experience at the highest levels in medicine, research, NHS management, nursing and academia, our new trustees will bring insight and perspective to the Nuffield Trust’s work as we develop our forthcoming strategy.  

“They will be joining our existing high-calibre board of trustees and will be working to support our new Chief Executive Thea Stein and wider Nuffield Trust staff to build on the organisation’s excellent reputation for rigorous and high-quality policy and research.
