This workshop for leaders in small rural hospitals was organised by NHS Improvement and NHS England and Nuffield Trust, hosted by HFMA.

The NHS Long Term Plan contains a commitment to develop a viable model for smaller rural acute hospitals. This is an issue that the NHS has been grappling with for some time. There has been work done on elements of this but a number of significant issues remain unresolved. These range from more practical issues about how clinical networks might operate and how best to solve local recruitment and retention issues through to issues around national clinical standards and training.

This workshop provided an opportunity to:

  • Inform the development of a programme of work that will deliver the promise in the Long Term Plan
  • Share the solutions and models that are already being developed
  • Agree a way of working for NHS England and NHS Improvement with small and rural acute hospitals.

This event will took place at HFMA's London office on the 3rd July from 10am-4pm.
