Publicly funded social care for older adults has been facing a prolonged squeeze in recent years, due both to the budget reductions and increased life expectancy.
Reductions in publicly funded social care services are likely to be having a negative impact on the health and well-being of users and their carers. Tracking the impact on health services however is difficult, because NHS and social care data are not linked and very little is known about the growing number of older adults who are self-funding or relying on informal care.
This breakfast seminar is designed to follow up on our report Focus On: social care for older people, published on 26 March 2014, which describes the scale and nature of cuts to publicly funded social care for older adults.
Delegates will have the chance to consider:
- Cuts to social care budgets: what evidence is there about the impact on the health and well-being of older adults and their carers?
- What is the impact on the NHS, including the hospital sector, primary and community care?
- What strategies are being used by local Government, the NHS and the voluntary sector locally to track the impact of the cuts and overcome any negative impacts on the health and well-being of older adults?
- What is the potential for the Better Care Fund to mitigate the impact of the cuts to social care budgets?
