To mark the retirement of Sir George Godber, the Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) from 1960 to 1975, Trustees invited him to nominate a number of younger doctors who would be commissioned to write essays in which they would be asked to look ahead in their particular speciality and to speculate about its place within the NHS.
The essays discuss the future of major branches of medicine and indeed about the future of medical care.
